His journey to receiving FDA clearance took over a decade, filled with challenges that required careful planning and strategic decision-making.

Tom Harries, co-founder of Earth Funeral, discussed how his company is redefining what it means to say goodbye. Earth Funeral has developed a process that turns human remains into soil, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional burial methods.
Unlike medical devices, Earth Funeral didn’t face the same level of regulatory scrutiny from the FDA. However, the company still had to navigate a different set of challenges—legislative and societal. When they launched, their process was only legal in one state. Expanding beyond that required engaging with lawmakers and educating the public about their innovative approach.
